During 2020–2021 Resilient Youth surveyed 6,324 young people in New Zealand aged 8-14 years through an online survey. This survey collects analyses and reports on the resilience of young people in terms of their strengths, life satisfaction, hopefulness, anxiety and depression, coping style, risk and protective behaviours. Well over 1 in 4 of primary and intermediate school students are anxious. 28% of primary school students report report symptoms of depression. The survey concludes that 60% of students are coming to school ready to learn. 1 in 3 of primary and intermediate school students reported some, little or no hope. These are hideous stats and a compelling reason ‘why’ we need to be teaching our young people strategies to help them be more positive, resilient and happy.
